Founding Product Designer

2022-2023

Kepler was a tool built to help biologists, AI researchers, and academic scientists discover, organize, annotate, and collaborate around scientific literature.

Background

Our small founding team worked with real Biology and ML science lab users, iterated quickly on their feedback, and shipped a fully realized product covering discovery, organization, and collaboration.

As the Founding Designer, I partnered with the team to take the product from zero to functional MVP in four months.

My work spanned the entire design lifecycle: competitive research and user interviews, information architecture and flow mapping, multiple rounds of prototypes, high-fidelity UI design across core product surfaces, and the creation of a design system to support the team going forward.

The result:

Intuitive UX with workflow-centric interaction design.

Check out author profiles and follow their public activity.

Save, upload, and download your whole library.

Organize it however you like.

Highlight and save snippets. See public highlights with conversations in context.

Collaborate on research with your team.

Under the hood, an enterprise-ready design system that supports a clear, information-dense reading experience.

The MVP was pre-sold to 15 research teams, validated by test users, and confirmed genuine product-market fit in a space where few modern tools exist.

Although the company ultimately pivoted toward a larger market opportunity, the decision was directly informed by the sales data we gathered.

The work demonstrated what a lean, fast-moving team can accomplish when design and product are tightly aligned from day one.
